Measurement Tools

NavNX provides measurement tools for taking precise anatomical measurements directly on DICOM imaging. Measurements are calibrated using the pixel spacing data embedded in the DICOM files.

Length Tool

The length tool measures the straight-line distance between two points in millimetres.
1

Activate the tool

Click the Length button in the toolbar (ruler icon) or press L.
2

Place the first point

Click on the viewport to set the start point.
3

Place the second point

Click again to set the end point. The measurement is displayed immediately in millimetres.
The measurement label is positioned at the midpoint of the line. Hover over the label to see the full precision value.

Angle Tool

The angle tool measures the angle between two line segments that share a common vertex, displayed in degrees.
1

Activate the tool

Click the Angle button in the toolbar (protractor icon) or press A.
2

Place three points

Click to set the first point, then the vertex (centre), then the third point. The angle is displayed at the vertex.

Editing Measurements

Measurements can be adjusted after placement:
  • Drag endpoints to reposition them
  • Hover over a measurement to highlight it
  • Click a measurement to select it, then press Delete to remove it

Eraser and Clear All

  • Eraser tool — click individual annotations to remove them one at a time
  • Clear All — removes all measurements from the current series (confirmation required)
Clear All removes all measurement annotations for the current series across all slices. This action cannot be undone.

Persistence

Annotations are saved as part of the case plan. They persist across:
  • Scrolling between slices (annotations appear on their respective slices)
  • Switching between view modes
  • Closing and reopening the case
Measurements are included in the pre-op report when you print or export it.
